Chip giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. plans to invest $100 billion in the United States, President Donald Trump announced Monday as he appeared with the company’s head at the White House. The world’s biggest semiconductor manufacturer produces products for U.S. companies including Apple, Intel and Nvidia.

Trump and TSMC’s chief executive officer C. C. Wei said the $100 billion is on top of the $65 billion that was already announced, including three plants in Arizona after the Biden administration offered billions in subsidies.

Other news we’re following today:

  • Trump blasts Zelenskyy’s latest comments: The president slammed Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday for suggesting the end of the Russia-Ukraine war “is still very, very far away.” Trump’s comments come as his allies have been publicly pressuring the Ukrainian president to dramatically change his approach to the U.S. president or step aside.
  • U.S. tariffs scheduled to start Tuesday: Trump said there is “no room left” for Canada and Mexico to negotiate and avoid steep new tariffs. Doubled tariffs on imports from China are also expected to begin Tuesday.
  • Trump prepares for a big speech to Congress: Trump’s speech on Tuesday evening isn’t technically considered a State of the Union address, but there’s no distinguishable difference for anyone watching at home. The president will be speaking to the coequal branch of government he has bulldozed past this first month in office.
