ANGE POSTECOGLOU is being touted to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager – and Tottenham fans are fearing the worst.
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan argued the Spurs would be the perfect fit to succeed the departing German.
Postecoglu has captured the hearts of Tottenham fans[/caption] Certain similarities have been drawn between Klopp and Postecoglou[/caption]To fans’ horror, he pointed out on talkSPORT that: “[Ange] would provide a lot of things Jurgen Klopp has managed to be successful in.
“Galvanising the fan base. The charisma, the personality, the relatability, the style of play.”
The Reds’ favourite German dropped the bombshell that he was “burnt out” and would be taking a break from football altogether come the end of the season.
Following his announcement, rumours broke that Liverpool might come sniffing for Tottenham’s beloved Aussie, who was reported to be on their ‘shortlist’.
Postecoglou is currently hovering at 10/1 with bookmakers to be the next Liverpool boss, well behind 4/5 favourite Xavi Alonso and 8/1 Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Fuelling speculation that he could make the move to Anfield is that Postecoglou, affectionately known to Spurs fans as Big Ange, was a Liverpool fan in his childhood.
At the start of his Tottenham tenure, he admitted: “Like any kid, I had posters up on my wall, so Liverpool was my team.”
In addition, history shows North London’s favourite Aussie has a tendency of moving clubs after just a few seasons, rarely sticking around for longer than three years.
Speaking about the regularity with which he’s moved, Postecoglu has said: “I haven’t based any decision in my life around security or contracts.
“Because I’ve probably left secure positions for un-secure positions because that’s how I am as a person.”
Debate is now raging amongst fans.
“Are you worried?” asked Ricky Sacks on ‘The Rest is Spurs’, Tottenham’s most listened to podcast.
He went on to say: “Because as Spurs fans we have been scared. We have had genuinely top talent that we’ve absolutely adored, and they genuinely do leave us and we’re absolutely in love with them.”
Were Postecoglu to make the switch, it wouldn’t be the first time Spurs fans have painfully lost talent to the Reds.
In 2008 iconic striker Robbie Keane made a shock departure up North.
And more recently, Tottenham were on the cusp of signing speed machine Luis Diaz when Liverpool swooped in, making a last minute bid for the Colombian, who has since scored 22 goals for them.
One fan said on X: “You can never rule it out completely.”
Another said: “Wouldn’t be overly confident, wouldn’t be surprised they give Alonso a chance first and take a shot at Ange next year if it doesn’t work out.”
Although, there is also some faith in their beloved manager, with one fan saying: “I don’t really see Ange leaving soon.”
And another mused: “There’s nothing to accomplish at Liverpool after Klopp. He wants the harder challenge at Spurs.”
