Klopp transformed Liverpool after taking charge in October 2015 and has won everything since.

He will forever be remembered as the man who ended their 30-year title drought and he also led them to three Champions League finals,- tasting success in 2019.

Klopp revealed that he informed Reds chiefs of his decision to step down last NOVEMBER, although players and staff only learned of his exit today.

And he says that there were “tears” when he told his squad as the countdown begins to the end of his near-nine year reign in charge.

The bombshell news has also left Liverpool supporters reeling as they struggle to comprehend life without their leader.

And as one fan broke their heart live on talkSPORT following the announcement, they had host Andy Goldstein in stitches.

The supporter, who went by the name of Sheen, said he was “absolutely distraught” as a Manchester United-supporting friend broke the news to him in what he thought was an “April’s Fools”.

He then claimed: “I wish it was my wife leaving me, not Jurgen.”

Goldstein and his co-host Darren Bent instantly burst out laughing, but the caller continued: “Honestly, for what he has done for Liverpool – and it’s not just because he’s a tactical genius, it’s all the young players that he is bringing through.

“He was our Fergie. That’s the biggest compliment that I can pay him.”

Meanwhile, while Reds were trying to get their heads around Klopp’s exit, United fans declared it was the best news ever as some declared: “We are so back!”

Liverpool became the dominant force in the Premier League alongside Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City under Klopp with the two clubs the only sides to win the title since 2017.

United, meanwhile, have failed to add to their record 20 titles since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

But with Klopp leaving and Guardiola’s contract up at the end of next season, their fans believe their time has now come again.

One post on X, formerly Twitter, said: “Klopp is leaving. Pep will leave too. New ownership in #MUFC. We are back on top!”

Another wrote: “We are so back. Klopp gone. Ratcliffe sacking everyone in sight. Pep and the 115 charges will be gone soon. All will be well again.”

While a third commented: “Klopp leaving Liverpool. Pep in the last year of his contract. ‘Eras come to an end’ – Erik ten Hag.”
