While he has been regarded as the club’s biggest target after his astonishing unbeaten season at Leverkusen.
The Spaniard is lined up to win the club’s first-ever title which has made him very popular at every major club in Europe – including Bayern Munich, Barcelona and also Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Should Alonso opt to go elsewhere Amorim is the next most desirable replacement of Klopp.
The Portuguese boss has excelled at Sporting restoring the success the clubs have failed to recoup after decades of domination by Porto and Benfica.
Compared to Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi who has been lined up as an alternative to Alonso, Amorim is now the favourable choice.
Despite the 39-year-old having less than five years of top-flight managerial experience and never coached outside Portugal.
Amorim has become popular with Sporting but he was a former player to Lisbon rivals Benfica.
A former midfielder he made 154 appearances for the Primera Liga giants and made earned 14 caps for Portugal.
After hanging up his boots in 2017 he began his coaching career at Primera Liga side Casa Pia.
He was appointed as head coach at Braga B before taking charge of the first team in December 2019 winning the 2020 Taca da Liga.
Then in March 2020 Amorim was appointed manager of Sporting for a managerial transfer worth £8.65 million becoming the third-most expensive manager ever.
He guided the club to a double of the Taca da Liga and the Primeira Liga, ending the latter’s 19-year league title drought.
