The Reds are yet to appoint his successor, with several big names linked with the job.

Former midfielder Xabi Alonso was understood to be the club’s top managerial target, but he recently announced his decision to stay at Bayer Leverkusen for at least another season.

Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim has also been mentioned, but West Ham have also expressed an interest.

The Hammers held talks with the former Portugal international this week after flying him over to London.

He is now said to be keeping his options open.

Liverpool remain interested in Amorim, but transfer guru Fabrizio Romano now claims they are also in direct talks with Feyenoord boss Slot.

The Reds have already spoken to the Dutchman and further talks have been scheduled.

Slot cancelled a press conference scheduled for Wednesday amid the ongoing discussions.

The manager has taken charge of 144 games for Feyenoord, 93 of which resulted in a win.

The 45-year-old has suffered just 24 defeats with the Eredivisie side and drawn 27.

During his three-year spell at the club Slot has also won the Eredivisie title.

Some Liverpool fans have welcomed the news regarding the possibility of Slot’s arrival.

One person took to X to write: “Great news!”

While another commented: “I think he’ll be a good fit for them with Edwards. Kuyt as his assistant, calling it now.”

However, others are not so convinced with one person writing: “We want Amorim.”

Another even compared him to Erik ten Hag, who has struggled at Manchester United this season.

They added: “Did we not learn from the other bald guy who came to the EPL from the Dutch league?”

Liverpool are currently embroiled in a Premier League title race with Arsenal and Manchester City.

They sit second in the table, only behind the Gunners on goal difference.
