LIVERPOOL are set to meet Ruben Amorim’s agent tomorrow as the Reds look to finalise a deal with the Sporting manager.

Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of this season and the Premier League side are working behind the scenes to appoint his successor.

Earlier reports claimed Liverpool were keen to bring Xabi Alonso to Anfield but the Spaniard announced last month he will stay at Bayer Leverkusen.

This has seen a shift in the Reds’ focus to Amorim to take on the leading role at the Merseyside club next term.

And Liverpool has stepped up their efforts to secure the 39-year-olds signature according to Correio da Manha.

Amorim is represented by Raul Costa and it is reported that Liverpool “will meet him on Tuesday” (April 9).

The agent will try to outline to details on Amorim’s contract and convince Sporting to part ways with their boss after this season.

And Costa will try to convince the manager to take on the role at Anfield.

The coach’s deal in Lisbon lasts until 2026 and has a release clause of £25million which will drop down to £17m for clubs outside of Portugal.

But a major club like Liverpool are hoping they can bring the Portuguese boss’ price tag down to £8.5m.

Amorim has had a terrific season at Sporting who are currently at the top of the league.

They are four points adrift from Lisbon rivals Benfica with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Klopp’s side lost their first-place position after drawing 2-2 against Manchester United on Sunday.

Arsenal thrashed Brighton 3-0 at the Amex Stadium to allow them to leapfrog ahead of the Reds on goal difference.
