Liverpool vs Chelsea preview

An intriguing encounter awaits as Arne Slot’s Liverpool clash with Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea in a battle between the Premier League’s two in-form sides.

Liverpool sit top of the division with 18 points from a possible 21, losing their only game at Anfield to Nottingham Forest.

Since that defeat, the Reds have won all six while scoring 16 goals and registering an impressive three clean sheets.

In fact, defensive solidarity has been a theme of Slot’s tenure. His side have conceded the fewest goals (2), kept the most clean sheets (5), and have the lowest expected goals against figure (5.2) of any side in the Premier League.

Liverpool are also unbeaten in their last six Premier League meetings with Chelsea, though five have ended level.

After a stuttering start, things have clicked for Chelsea.

The London heavyweights are fourth in the table and are enjoying a streak of five wins from their last six – drawing 1-1 with Nottingham Forest last time out.

Chelsea certainly don’t have the defensive record of their opponents, but they do have the edge in terms of attacking statistics.

Only Manchester City (17) have scored more goals than Chelsea (16) in the division this term, and only Tottenham boast a higher xG (15.0) than the Blues (14.7).

Booked

Ibrahima Konate doesn’t mind a booking or two. The towering 25-year-old has received four yellow cards in his first nine matches of the season, and he also got one for France against Belgium during the international break.

Konate has faced Chelsea on eight occasions during his career, and he’s been booked in three of those – that’s more than any club he’s faced in his career. All three of his cautions against Chelsea have come in his last three matches against the club.

Mr Assist

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer looks a good price at 4/1 to register an assist on Sunday. The playmaker, 22, has provided five assists in seven league appearances for the Blues this season, while only Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has created more chances this the division.

Palmer has a total of 23 chances created and eight of those are categorised as big chances – averaging a chance for his colleagues every 26 minutes.
