THE Premier League title race could take a turn this weekend when Liverpool face reigning champions Manchester City at Anfield.

Liverpool currently sit at the top of the table, just one point ahead of Pep Guardiola‘s side.

And with just 11 games left to play this season, the result of Sunday’s fixture could prove to be crucial on the final day.

Should the Reds win, they will go a maximum of four points clear at the top.

But if City claim the three points they will leapfrog Liverpool into first.

Meanwhile, a draw would open the door for Arsenal to take the top spot.

Plenty has been said ahead of this crunch clash, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Erling Haaland embroiled in a war of words.

But who will come out on top at Anfield?

Team news

Liverpool will still be without several first team stars due to injury.

Ibrahima Konate was forced off with an injury against Sparta Prague on Thursday, meaning he is now a doubt for Sunday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic, Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota and Joel Matip all remain absent.

But the Reds were handed a boost when Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah returned last week.

Meanwhile, Man City will be without Jack Grealish, who is not expected to return until after the international break.

Matheus Nunes could also be rested after suffering a horrific dislocated finger injury on Wednesday.

Who will be the star players?

Darwin Nunez could be one to watch for Liverpool.

The 24-year-old scored twice for the Reds in the Europa League on Thursday and netted a crucial last-minute goal against Nottingham Forest last week.

Erling Haaland leads the Premier League Golden Boot race

Meanwhile, Erling Haaland is expected to terrorise Liverpool’s defence on Sunday.

The striker currently leads the Premier League Golden Boot race with 18 goals from 22 games.

And he was on the scoresheet again last week in the Manchester Derby.

What has been said?

Trent Alexander-Arnold claimed that although his side haven’t won as many trophies as Man City in recent years, Liverpool’s accomplishments “mean more” to the club and fans.

He told FourFourTwo: “It’s tough. We’re up against a machine that’s built to win – that’s the simplest way to describe City and their organisation.

“Looking back on this era, although they’ve won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs, financially.

“How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we’ve done it, probably means more to our fans.”

However, Haaland was quick to hit back.

He told Sky Sports: “If he wants to say that, okay. I’ve been here one year and I’ve won the Treble.

“It was quite a nice feeling. I don’t think he knows exactly this feeling.

“That’s what I felt last season and it was quite nice.”
