Liverpool vs Wolves preview

It’s a short turnaround for the Premier League leaders Liverpool as they welcome relegation-threatened Wolves to Anfield for Sunday’s encounter.

The Reds will need to pick themselves up after Wednesday’s dramatic Merseyside derby.

Arne Slot’s side took a point, but the draw will have felt like a defeat after watching Everton’s James Tarkowski thump home a 98th-minute equaliser.

Tempers flared with Curtis Jones, Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff sent off after the final whistle.

But the bare facts are that Liverpool collected a point and now boast a seven-point advantage at the top of the division with 14 matches remaining.

Whether or not Arne Slot’s appeal is successful, the Merseyside outfit should have more than enough in their locker to navigate their way past Wolves.

Liverpool have won 15 of their last 16 Premier League meetings with Wolves, while the visitors have lost nine of their 10 Premier League away games at Anfield.

Vitor Pereira’s side have also lost all seven of their Premier League away games against sides starting the day top of the table.

Only Leicester City (32) have conceded more away goals in the Premier League this season than Wolves (28).

And that’s not good news considering Liverpool have scored at least twice in each of their last nine Premier League home games (22 goals overall).

Still, Wolves arrive in good spirits.

The West Midlands side are outside of the relegation zone and have successive 2-0 victories over rivals Aston Villa and Blackburn under their belts.

Liverpool have conceded in each of their last four Premier League home games, shipping six goals in this run – as many as their previous 10 Anfield league games beforehand.

Wolves, meanwhile, have only blanked once in their last seven away games in all competitions and actually have a higher xG than Arsenal over the last four matches (4.81).
