LUKE HUMPHRIES fell victim to a freak shot in the PDC World Darts Championship final.
The new world number one was locked in a tense encounter with Luke Littler when he suffered from the bizarre moment.
Humphries had planted a pair of triple 20s before chasing a 180 with his third dart at Alexandra Palace.
However, his final arrow hit fell out the board, taking another with it, to cost Cool Hand Luke a maximum.
He was visibly shocked by the freak shot, showing a perplexed expression as he collected his darts.
Darts fans were sympathetic on social media, with one commenting: “That’s so unlucky.”
Another added: “So tough for Luke.”
A third fan simply wrote: “Brutal.”
Humphries had been trailing 3-2 and was behind 2-0 in the sixth set at the time of the incident.
He was unable to recover to rescue the set, before roaring back to win the next and reduce Littler’s lead to 4-3 at Ally Pally.
