But he was unable to repeat his feat in Leicester today.

Littler won through four rounds, beating Keane Barry from 5-3 down, then Cameron Menzies, Kevin Doets and Dirk van Duijvenbode.

He came unstuck against world No33 Rydz, however, falling 6-4 to the Geordie at Mattioli Arena.

Rydz was enjoying a stunning day’s work, having produced an incredible comeback to beat Daryl Gurney.

The 25-year-old was 5-0 down to Gurney, before reeling off six straight to win.

Rydz continued his momentum against Littler by sprinting into a 3-1 lead.

Littler continued to fight and could be seen getting frustrated with his own performance.

His opponent went on to see out the match 6-4, booking a spot in the semi-finals against Gary Anderson.

Littler will return to action this Thursday in week four of Premier League darts in Newcastle.

He will be up against Peter Wright in the quarter-finals, with both men having bowed out at that stage last week in Glasgow.

Wright, 53, was comprehensively beaten 6-2 by Michael van Gerwen, with the Dutchman going on to win the whole thing.

Littler, meanwhile, was edged out 6-5 by Gerwyn Price.
