Littler breezed past Dutchman Jermaine Wattimena 6-1 in the second round with a record-breaking 111.13 average.

World champion Luke Humphries’ previous record stood at 110.65.

Littler‘s display set the standards for the rest of those in the Flanders Open draw.

But Dijvenbode, known as the “Aubergenius” for bringing the vegetable on to the stage with him, powered past the 17-year-old to secure his spot in the quarter-finals in Belgium.

Despite missing a match point, Littler couldn’t take advantage, leaving him to watch on as Van Duijvenbode celebrated.

The Dutchman averaged 101.38 and threw five 180s during the match against the Nuke.

Following victory over Luke Littler Van Dijvenbode said: “I was so focused.

“I said, ‘Dirk, if you want to win this game, you need to be at your best.

“We’ve never seen a kid like this, he has so much more to improve and he’s already unbeatable.

“I’m still not 100 per cent, and I won’t be this year. But winning these games gives a confidence boost.”

The 32-year-old will now play Ricardo Pietreczko in the last eight with the hopes of winning the £30,000 jackpot in Antwerp on Sunday.
