However, the win did not come not without MVG showing off his talent.
Littler was on course for a nine-darter to secure the match and only had to hit the double 12 to secure it after two treble 20s.
But as the Nottingham crowd went wild, the teen sensation missed his final throw.
Van Gerwen then took to the oche with 247 left on his total.
He hit two treble 20s and then went out of his way to land the double 12, in a move appearing to mock Littler’s failed attempt.
Van Gerwen smirked on his walk back to the table and his rival also giggled.
Littler then closed out the match with his next throw.

The cheeky showboating by MVG was completely missed by commentator Wayne Mardle, who claimed he was actually laughing at the “ridiculousness” of Luke the Nuke’s display.
Littler went on to lose 6-3 to Nathan Aspinall in the semi-final.
Luke Humphries made it back-to-back wins as he beat the Asp 6-3 in the final.
Cool Hand has now overtaken Van Gerwen at the top of the Premier League table.
Littler sits third and is on course to qualify for the play-offs.
