ERIK TEN HAG planned to start Luke Shaw at left-back against Tottenham, before the Manchester United left-back dropped out of the squad on Sunday morning.
The Red Devils drew 2-2 with Spurs at Old Trafford as the visitors came from behind twice to earn a deserved point.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a right-back by trade, lined up on the left of Man Utd’s back four, with Diogo Dalot on the other side.
But journalist Simon Stone revealed after the game that Ten Hag had prepared for the match with Shaw in the side.
However, the England international withdrew from the squad on the morning of the game.
Shaw was absent for Man Utd‘s fixtures against Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest due to a muscle injury.
And he clearly did not feel ready to return to the side against Tottenham over the weekend.
The ex-Southampton man has missed 13 of Man Utd’s 21 Premier League games so far this season due to injury issues.
Dalot, 24, has been the primary cover for Shaw as he has filled in at left-back on eight occasions.
Back-up Tyrell Malacia has not featured at all since sustaining a serious knee injury last season.

And loanee left-back Sergio Reguilon returned to Tottenham earlier this month after his deal was terminated.
But Red Devils fans could still not understand why Wan-Bissaka started on the left rather than Dalot.
Despite Shaw’s absence, Man Utd were buoyed by the return of centre-back Lisandro Martinez.
The Argentine, 25, who has been out since September with a foot injury, came off the bench to replace Jonny Evans in the second half on Sunday.
