Manchester City vs Newcastle preview
Pep Guardiola must be wondering what on earth he’s watching with his Manchester City side.
They could’ve been three down before Erling Haaland’s outstanding team goal before being pegged back.
Injuries didn’t help and the squad depth isn’t what it should be looking at who had to come on for the injuries.
But to then re-take the lead through Haaland’s penalty and chuck away the lead with four minutes to go is bad enough. Losing another goal in injury time is ridiculous.
The last thing they want ahead of next week’s crunch return game at the Bernabeu is a buzzing Newcastle side who must certainly smell blood.
The Toon have won their last six away games on the bounce and booking a cup final spot has the squad on cloud nine.
The sides go into the game level on 41 points in 5th and 6th spot, so neither side can allow big upcoming games to distract from this one.
Newcastle’s last away win at Man City in the league was 2000 though, so that’s some obstacle to overcome. They did win in the League Cup in 2014 – their only other win away to City.

Man City vs Newcastle predictions
In for a tough one
Manuel Akanji’s injury was a real turning point in midweek, with Rico Lewis struggling up against Vinicius Jr and at fault for the third goal.
It’s likely he’ll be forced to come in from the start and will likely face another tough ask when up against a bang in form Anthony Gordon.
Gordon has either scored or assisted in 13 of the last 16 games he’s featured in, which is a phenomenal return.
Both selections are coming from that duel and Gordon must surely be licking his lips at the prospect.
