Man Utd defender Victor Lindelof ‘set to be offered escape route’ as Italian giants plot transfer bid

VICTOR LINDELOF is set to be offered a way out of Manchester United with an Italian giant, according to reports.

Lindelof, 30, is in the final 12 months of his contract at Old Trafford and is not expected to be offered an extension.

Man Utd transfer chiefs would like to avoid losing him for free, and are consequently open to selling him this summer after signing Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt to play ahead of him.

With Lindelof down the Red Devils’ pecking order, a departure would suit all parties.

Lindelof, who signed for Man Utd from Benfica in summer 2017, was not in the squad to face Manchester City in the Community Shied last week due to a fitness problem, before he also missed the cut for their opening Premier League game against Fulham.

He has appeared 259 times for the club, scoring four goals and adding seven assists.

Reports from last month suggested Man Utd chiefs were “trying hard” to sell Lindelof.

And according to Sky Sports Italy reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, that could come in the form of Fiorentina.

The Serie A side are said to be showing an interest in Lindelof after approaching Man Utd to find out the conditions needed over a possible deal.

The prospects of striking a deal were boosted by a Premier League rival after Nottingham Forest agreed a deal to sign long-serving defender Nikola Milenkovic earlier in the window.
