MANCHESTER UNITED have revealed why they cut short Sergio Reguilon’s loan from Tottenham.
The Red Devils confirmed on Thursday that the Spanish left-back was returning to Spurs despite his deal running until the end of the season.
Sergio Reguilon endured a difficult loan spell at Manchester UnitedGettyHe played just 12 games for Erik ten Hag‘s men and made little impact at Old Trafford.
And with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia set to return soon from their respective injuries, they do not feel Reguilon would be given sufficient game time during the second half of the campaign.
A club statement read: “Sergio fulfilled the role he was brought in for: to provide cover for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia while both were out with long-term injuries.
“While Luke has missed the past two games with a minor injury, the England international is expected back soon. Tyrell, meanwhile, is getting closer to a return from his knee injury.
“The versatile Diogo Dalot can also provide further cover at left-back.
“With fewer games in the second half of the season and injured players returning, there will be less opportunity for Sergio to play.
“It was decided it was in the best interests of all parties for Reguilon to return to Spurs.”
Reguilon also thanked United for their help during his short stint at the club.

Reguilon struggled to string together a consistent run in Man Utd’s teamHe tweeted: “It has been great to play for Manchester United and I just want to say thank you to the club, the fans and my team-mates.
“It was a privilege to play for this huge club. I wish all the best for the Red Devils.”
Reguilon joined Tottenham from Real Madrid on a five-year deal worth £27.5million.
But he has played just 67 times for the North London club, with Spurs opting to loan him out to both Atletico Madrid and Man Utd.
