ERIK TEN HAG raised eyebrows after incredibly claiming Manchester United deserved to beat Chelsea following 4-3 defeat.

Boyhood United fan Cole Palmer scored a hat-trick and sealed victory with a winner TEN minutes into added time.

It capped off a seven-goal thriller, in which United came from 2-0 down to lead up until the closing stages.

But Palmer levelled from the spot then saw his winning strike from a short corner deflected to separate the sides.

Pressure continues to mount on Ten Hag with United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe watching on from Stamford Bridge.

Although the under-fire Dutchman insisted his side were hard done by in the capital.

Ten Hag told TNT Sports: “Yes we started poor, kicking the ball away and defending poorly.

“But you saw we were dominating the game and it was brilliant how we played — we deserved to win the game.

“But, you cannot give it away like we did and we have to manage this game better.

“It is a team performance, you can point to one of the players but it is about team performance.

That drew a confused reaction from fans, as one asked: “Did you watch the game?”

Another fumed: “He needs to take accountability.”

Chelsea had 28 shots overall compared to United’s 19 and ten of those were on target for the Blues.

The host’s also had 57 per cent possession and United now sit in sixth, 11 points adrift of the top four and welcome Liverpool on Sunday.
