MANCHESTER UNITED fans have hailed the add-ons inserted into the transfer that took Mason Mount from Chelsea to Old Trafford after the details were revealed.
Mount, 24, arrived in the summer for a £55million transfer fee with an additional £5m in potential add-ons.
The details of Mason Mount’s transfer to Man Utd have been revealed[/caption]However, the details of what will trigger that extra £5m have now been revealed.
The Athletic report the Red Devils will need to make a £1m payment to Chelsea every time Mount plays in 70 per cent of games in a title-winning season during his five-year contract at the club.
Of course, Man Utd appear to be light-years away from properly competing for a Premier League title, let alone winning one.
There is also the poor injury record of Mount to consider.
The midfielder has missed the majority of the season thanks to persistent injury issues.
This means that even if Erik ten Hag‘s side were in the running to win the league this season, no payment would be owed to Chelsea due to Mount’s limited involvement.
And fans were left in disbelief at the clause, with one saying on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Safest add-ons in a contract, ever!”
A second said: “Chelsea won’t be getting that.”

A third said: “So that’s a total of zero millions.”
A fourth said: “Smart business from Man Utd, not winning the league in five years.”
Another said: “So between Man Utd not being good and Mount having too many injuries to play 70 per cent of games anyway, it’s pretty much just a £55m fee.”
While a sixth added: “Well, that’s five million saved straight away.”
Other revelations from the report were far more damning.
They included Erik ten Hag’s transfer targets when he first joined the club, a £25m valuation of Antony under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, arguments between members of staff and a rift between John Murtough and Sir Alex Ferguson.
