Man Utd flop Van de Beek’s loan spell turns to nightmare with latest humiliation at Frankfurt

DONNY VAN DE BEEK’S loan move from Manchester United to Eintracht Frankfurt is already turning into a nightmare after a humiliating substitution last night.

The Red Devils splashed out £34m to Ajax for the 26-year-old Dutch international midfielder in 2020.

Van de Beek’s time in England has been marred by injuries and a lack of minutes, and even a loan move to Everton failed to turn his fortunes around.

He has only made six Premier League starts for United after struggling to make a breakthrough under Erik ten Hag.

The ace still has 18 months remaining on his contract at Old Trafford but had featured for just 21 minutes this term, with his last outing coming as sub against Crystal Palace on September 30.

That led to him once again departing United in order to try and resurrect his career.

He completed a loan to Frankhurt within the first 12 hours of the January transfer window with the Bundesliga side also having an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

It is believed that fee would be around £9.5m – with add-ons potentially seeing it rise to £12m.

However, the prospect of the in-form German club taking up that option looks increasingly unlikely as Van De Beek struggles in his new surroundings.

He has started all three games since his arrival at Frankfurt but he suffered a huge blow last night.

Having been deployed in the No.10 position during the 1-0 win over Mainz, he lasted just 45 minutes.

He hit a new low on Friday as he was taken off at half-time in a 1-0 victory over Mainz following a lifeless first half.

And his stats made for grim reading as he failed to make any impact.

Van de Beek attempted just eight passes, with only three in the opposition half, and had 14 touches altogether.

He did not even produce a shot before he was hauled off at the break on his home bow.

It was the third straight game that Van de Beek has been taken off.

He lasted just 63 minutes on his debut against RB Leipzig and then managed a minute more in the draw at Darmstadt.

And last night’s humiliation means he has a lot of work to do to convince Frankfurt to snap him up on a permanent basis.
