MANCHESTER UNITED supporters can expect the polar opposite of David De Gea in Andre Onana.

The Red Devils announced the £47million signing of Onana from Inter Milan last night.

Onana, 27, joins the club after they made the goalkeeper their number one priority following the departure of De Gea.

The deal sees Onana – who has signed a five-year deal with an option for a further season – become the third most expensive goalkeeper in football history.

Only Chelsea‘s £72m world record signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Liverpool’s £67m acquisition of Alisson – both in 2018 – are larger than Onana’s move to Old Trafford.

United will pay an initial fee of £43m for the Cameroon international, with add-ons taking the total value to around £47m.

That has secured Erik ten Tag a modern day goalie that is equally as good with his feet as his hands – something De Gea could not offer.

And Onana is someone that very much has his priorities in order when it comes to his footballing philosophies.

De Gea, 32, was left out of Spain’s World Cup squad as he does not fit with his country’s style of play.

Onana did make the cut for Cameroon, however, there were soon fireworks when he was asked to change his own style to a more traditional one.

He started in Cameroon’s World Cup opener against Switzerland and performed well in the 1-0 defeat, a game he enjoyed 61 touches of the ball in.

But he and manager Rigobert Song had a dispute over the keeper’s playing style which resulted in a shouting match

Song wanted a more traditional goalie between the sticks but Onana, who is very capable of playing out from the back, refused to change his ways.

And, as a result of their argument, Onana was removed from the squad and flew home.

But Ten Hag has been desperate to have a stopper in the Onana mould, and after his past experiences at Ajax and Barcelona, you can now be sure to see him starting off United moves from the back.
