But rowdy Copenhagen fans did their best to get inside the head of Red Devils stopper Onana from the get go.

Although the Cameroonian keeper stood firm and even gave them a cheeky wave back as tension began to build in the stadium.

BBC reporter John Southall said: “You can hear the boos in the stadium and that’s because the Manchester United goalkeepers have come out to warm up

“About half-an-hour ago he came out on his own, the stand on my left was already full of vociferous Copenhagen supporters, he marched towards the goal at that end, he chose that end, he got to the goal, he walked along the goal line, he walked back across the goal line, you can imagine the reception he got, he touched the post, he waved at the fans and he walked off.

“Very, very brave man.”

Ex-United defender Steve Bruce added: “He’s got a bit of character about him that’s why I think everyone quite likes him and want him to do well.”

Onana was brought in for £47million from Inter Milan after Old Trafford legend David de Gea’s contract ran out.

But the former Ajax man has suffered inconsistent form with mistakes costing United points.
