MANCHESTER UNITED legend Teddy Sheringham has revealed how new Old Trafford No2 Ruud van Nistelrooy can get the best out of Marcus Rashford this season.

Red Devils fans feel there are exciting times ahead after the return of Dutch icon Van Nistelrooy to the Theatre of Dreams.

The Premier League and FA Cup winner, who scored 150 times in five years for United, has taken up a new role as Erik ten Hag’s assistant.

It’s hoped Van Nistelrooy will get the team firing again after last season’s drab eighth-place finish.

And one man in desperate need of a rebirth is Rashford.

He found the net just eight times last season — 22 goals down on his efforts in the previous campaign.

Paris Saint-Germain are now reportedly keeping tabs on Rashford.

But Sheringham, himself an iconic United goalscorer and trophy winner, believes Van Nistelrooy can get the best out of the axed England star.

He reckons Rashford will be able to learn plenty of tips and tricks on how to operate inside the box.

And with some additional finishing work, Sheringham believes Rashford’s full potential can be unlocked under the watchful eye of Van Nistelrooy.

He told onlinepoker.ltd: “I suppose Ruud van Nistelrooy could help Marcus Rashford improve his finishing, but a lot if it will depend on the relationship between the pair of them.

“Forwards are very temperamental people and if you upset them by telling them something, then it could be a difficult relationship.

Why De Ligt is the perfect Man Utd signing

By Lee Scott

One of Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag’s biggest headaches has been fixing their leaky defence.

Despite still not being anywhere near his peak years De Ligt has built considerable experience so far in his career with Ajax, Juventus and Bayern Munich and he has 45 caps at senior level for the Dutch national team.

While he is not necessarily a highly modern ball playing type of defensive player he is a player with the defensive strengths and instincts to help shore up a United defence that was, at best, leaky last season.

He has a great ability to read the game which was one of the biggest issues that we saw from the United defensive unit last season.

De Ligt is also a master in one-on-one situations, who shows strength and intensity in his duels.

The Dutch star does a good job in keeping things simple and tends to make good decisions in possession.

The pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt makes perfect sense for United and for Ten Hag as a young defender who is still to reach his peak.

He has considerable experience at a high level and he understands the game model and system of play of the manager.

Sheringham has also warned Van Nistelrooy to avoid making a major mistake[/caption]

“For example, if Ruud van Nistelrooy is coaching Rashford and tells him to look at what another players does, perhaps someone that Rashford doesn’t rate or someone that he thinks he is better than, then maybe he will ignore his advice or lose some respect for his opinion.

“It upsets some players when a coach asks them to be a bit more like another player.”

Sheringham added: “Like I said, us forwards are very temperamental. Some need the arm around the shoulder and need buttering up.

“Telling them how good they are is the main thing because you want your centre forward to be full of confidence.

“If you don’t treat your centre forward in the right way, it could be a fractious relationship from the off.

“Coaching the strikers is a really important role at a club. Ruud will need to disassociate himself as a top player when he coaches.

“We’ve all heard stories of top players coaching that get frustrated because the players can’t do what they could do with their eyes closed.

“He needs to go in there without any ego and understand what it is exactly he can do to help bring the best out of these Manchester United attacking players.”
