He won the Premier League, League Cup and FA Cup before moving to Real Madrid in 2006.

Van Nistelrooy, who previously revealed how Roy Keane forced him into cutting his hair during their playing days together, has embarked on coaching since retiring as a player in 2012.

He has been assistant manager for his country as well as coaching the youth teams at PSV Eindhoven.

He then landed the top job at the club in 2022 and led them into the Champions League and won two trophies in his first season at the helm.

However, Van Nistelrooy shockingly left the Eredivisie giants in the summer and remains unemployed while he waits for his next job.

A number of teams from across the continent have been in touch with him to try and persuade him to take charge of them.

And another of his old clubs, Heerenveen, are the latest to be rejected by the former forward.

He helped Cody Gakpo’s development at Eindhoven before he moved to Liverpool and also coached Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.

Now he revealed that he is desperate to follow in the footsteps of his former proteges and head to the Premier League.

Van Nistelrooy has been widely-quoted as saying: “I have had offers from various clubs, also in my own country, but I would love to work in England or in Spain.

“I want to coach in a league where I have played, because in those countries I speak the language fluently.

“In my opinion, I have gained plenty of experience. I have gone through the ranks.”

He continued: “I did the younger youth teams at PSV Eindhoven, I was coach of the under-21s and subsequently became manager of the first team.

“I have managed a lot of different players. I helped young talented players develop, let them grow, like Gakpo, Madueke (Johan) Bakayoko and Xavi Simons. I was able to support them in their development.

“It matters to me that it is a well organised club. I still want to work with young players, but ideally with a mixture of experienced professionals. I want to help them improve and bring a winning mentality.

“The latter is the most important thing. With my style of football.”

Van Nistelrooy won 33 of his 51 matches in charge of PSV and lifted the KNVB Cup only to walk away amid rumours of player unrest.
