MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly plotting a shock transfer swoop on Tottenham to help resolve their midfield woes.

Pressure mounted on boss Erik ten Hag as the Red Devils slumped to a 4-3 defeat at FC Copenhagen last night to leave their Champions League hopes in tatters.

Summer signing Mason Mount has struggled to make an impact so far since his arrival for Chelsea over the summer.

While Brazilian veteran Casemiro, 31, is currently sidelined through injury.

However, a fresh report from Corriere dello Sport has claimed that they have identified a potential target to help fill the void in January.

The Italian publication claims that Spurs’ 28-year-old Danish international Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the man they want once the window opens in January.

We previously revealed how Juventus were targeting a potential loan swoop for the ace, who joined Tottenham from Southampton in 2020.

Now the newspaper states that both United and LaLiga giants Atletico Madrid will provide “fierce competition” for his signature in what could be a £26m-plus deal.

They claim that Spurs, who will lose fellow midfielders Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma to Africa Cup of Nations duty in January, have set that as a minimum asking price.

Hojbjerg was set to leave North London for Atletico Madrid in the summer after Spurs accepted a £30m bid only for the deal to collapse after he was unable to agree personal terms with the Spaniards.

New boss Ange Postecoglou has kept him in his squad this term, but the ace has been in and out of the side.

Meanwhile, we reported yesterday how Casemiro is the subject of intense interest from Saudi Pro League chiefs.

The likes of Al-Hilal, Al-Ahli and Al-Nassr embarked on mega spending sprees over the summer and they are plotting a swoop for the ex-Real Madrid star to kickstart a new wave of signings in the Middle East.

United are believed to be looking to raise cash for their own transfers and could be open to doing business as Casemiro approaches his 32nd birthday.
