Four of United‘s eight games will be played at Old Trafford – against Rangers, Paok, Bodo/Glimt and Twente.

Erik ten Hag and his players will travel abroad to face Porto, Fenerbahce, Viktoria Plzen and Romanian side FCSB.

The Red Devils are set to come face to face with former manager Mourinho in the upcoming run of fixtures.

Mourinho spent two years at Old Trafford between 2016 and 2018 and led United to Europa League glory.

Fenerbahce is his third club since leaving Man Utd.

He was appointed manager of the Turkish side earlier this summer.

Man Utd sealed Europa League qualification by winning the FA Cup last season.

Ten Hag’s side beat Manchester City 2-1 in the final at Wembley thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

New Europa League format explained

THE Europa League has been given a revamp this season, with a whole new group-stage format.

All 36 teams are in one big league.

Each team will play eight matches in the opening phase – against seeded opposition, in a system designed to ensure that teams play opponents of similar difficulty.

At the end of the league phase, the top eight teams in the “final” table will automatically go through to the last 16, where they will be joined by the eight play-off winners of ties between the sides placed ninth to 24th in the table.

The bottom 12 teams are eliminated from Europe entirely.

Despite there being just eight matches in the opening phase, European matches will be spread over 10 midweek slots.

The knockout phase of the tournament remains the same as previous years.

United would not have qualified otherwise after finishing eighth in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils played Champions League football last season – but not for long.

They were knocked out at the group stage after securing just four points from six games.

Instead, Bayern Munich and Copenhagen qualified for the knockout stages and Galatasaray dropped down to the Europa League.
