The Red Devils concluded their US tour with a match against the Bundesliga giants.

Forson, 19, was part of a largely second-string first-half XI fielded by boss Erik ten Hag.

He began the game well, before enduring a moment to forget.

The winger tried to tackle Karim Adeyemi, before kicking out at Julian Ryerson.

Defender Ryerson and forward Adeyemi both responded furiously – with Forson going head to head with the latter.

Forson also swung an arm, with both he and Adeyemi being booked after the incident.

Ten Hag was furious on the sideline, and immediately sent Antony on to replace Forson.

The youngster was visibly gutted as he left the pitch, and was consoled by experienced heads Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay.

Ten Hag, 53, gave Forson a lengthy talking to when he reached the touchline.

And after the match, the Dutchman warned: “When there is a VAR, he gets sent off.

“He played a good game and the opponent gets annoyed with him, so that is a learning curve but don’t take it into your own hands.

“You can’t be the judge, you have to play football, you have to beat your opponent, you have to net and that is the best way to react.”

United took the lead on 24 minutes courtesy of Diogo Dalot’s strike, but were pegged back by Donyell Malen’s double on the stroke of half-time.

Forson’s replacement Antony levelled on 52 minutes, before Youssoufa Moukoko bagged Dortmund’s winner on 71 minutes.

Following his side’s 3-2 defeat, Ten Hag blasted: “There are no excuses.

“We have to perform no matter what and then you have to be ruthless and win games because we are Man United and the fans are expecting from us wins.

“I said to the team, ‘I think it was a good tour but you want to finish with a good performance and you see only 60 minutes where I was pleased with but not with the goals we conceded because they were really poor.”
