MANCHESTER UNITED weighed up a deal for Yann Sommer before they splashed the cash on Andre Onana this summer.

And it looks as if they may have made the wrong decision dropping £47m on the Cameroonian shot-stopper.

Onana was brought to Old Trafford to replace the ageing David De Gea, but has failed to live up to expectations so far.

The 27-year-old shipped four goals against Copenhagen on Wednesday night in Man Utd’s 4-3 loss and has already come under fire for a number of high profile mistakes this season.

While Sommer, who was heavily linked with a switch to Man Utd in the summer, has excelled since making the move from Bayern Munich to Inter Milan.

Since his arrival in Italy he has kept more clean sheets than any goalkeeper in Europe’s top five leagues.

The experienced 34-year-old has kept the ball out of his net in NINE of his 15 appearances in all competitions.

The astounding record is coupled with the fact he has only conceded eight goals so far this term.

In comparison, Onana has seen the ball fly past him a whopping 30 times this season for Man Utd.

To make matters worse for the Red Devils, Sommer only cost a fraction of the amount they spent on Onana.

Inter replaced Onana with the Swiss International for a reported £5.2million.

There has already been a number of question marks over Man Utd’s summer addition including comparisons to the man he replaced, De Gea.

Underlying stats have shown that Onana hasn’t performed the way you would expect in comparison to last season’s golden glove winner.

And there is already talk of the Manchester giants eyeing up a miraculous return for their former keeper to rejoin the club.
