Mainoo’s current contract with the club runs until 2027 with an option for an extra year and sees him pocket £20,000 a week.
SunSport reported in May how Mainoo was in line for a new deal that would see him quadruple his wages after Euro 2024.
And the latest update from Sky Sports has revealed a new deal for the midfielder is viewed as a priority by club chiefs.
Speaking to Sky Sports, manager Erik ten Hag said the club was pleased with his development and would look to reward him appropriately.
He said: “I think he is rewarded by us as a club, as a team. We are so pleased with his development and for us and for him is to keep this process going.
“The leadership in the club has to talk about this and has to make a decision about this – of course we do that in co-operation.
“That is the thought – we will always have to discuss our players that are progressing well and what we will do with them. And when we have news, we will tell you first.”

Amad Diallo, who has had an impressive start to the season and named the team’s player of the month, is also said to be in line for a new deal.
The 22-year-old has a more pressing case than Mainoo after entering the final 12 months of his deal, though the club also have an optional extension to that deal.
On the winger, Ten Hag added: “He is now a consideration for every game. He has some attributes that really help the team.”
Amad also earns a relatively small amount for his impact in the team, with the former Sunderland and Rangers loanee currently pocketing £29,000-a-week.
The Ivorian was signed from Atalanta in a transfer worth £19million and potentially rising to £37.2m.
He has played 28 times for Man Utd in all competitions, scoring four goals and adding three assists.
