JAAP STAM is being lined up for a stunning return to management in the seventh tier of Dutch football.
The former Manchester United defender has been without a club since leaving MLS side FC Cincinnati in September 2021.
According to Dutch outlet 1908, Stam is now in discussions with boyhood club DOS Kampen to become their new head coach.
Stam would take over at the end of the season once current boss Johan Pitstra departs, the report adds.
The 51-year-old began his playing career with DOS Kampen, who currently play in the Tweede Klasse 2H, the seventh tier of Dutch football.
After coming through the club’s youth system, Stam departed for PEC Zwolle in 1992 aged 19.
He could now return after more than two years out of management.
Since leaving Cincinnati, Stam has been working as a pundit for Viaplay in the Netherlands.
His previous managerial roles include spells in charge of Reading, PEC Zwolle and Feyenoord.
As a player, the former defender won 66 caps for the Netherlands and was part of United’s Treble-winning side in 1999.
