MATS HUMMELS has been lined up for a sensational Premier League transfer after leaving Borussia Dortmund as a free agent.
The defender left Dortmund under acrimonious circumstances after a massive fall out with former boss Edin Terzic.
Hummels has been lined up for a free transfer by Brighton[/caption]Now Brighton are willing to take a chance on the World Cup winning defender as a free agent, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky reporter claims that new Brighton coach Fabian Hurzeler has already held a call with Hummels, 35, about joining the club.
In the phone call, Hurzeler pitched Brighton’s sporting project while Hummels spoke about his own sporting ambitions.
The defender is reportedly weighing up whether to join Brighton against retiring from football.
Hurzeler, 31, was a shock appointment for Brighton this summer, having experienced success last season with Bundesliga side St Pauli.
At just 31, he would be four years younger than his potential signing.
With Hurzeler favouring a 3-4-3 formation while at St Pauli and likely to implement that at Brighton, Hummels would be protected in the defence.
The German would likely play in the centre of a back three.

Hummels reached the Champions League final last year with Dortmund.
But both he and Terzic left the club under unhappy circumstances this summer.
It came after Hummels criticised the manager publicly for the way he sets up against top teams ahead of the Champions League final, saying: “I was furious because I was of the opinion that Borussia Dortmund shouldn’t play like that – against any opponent in the world.
‘I didn’t think it could go on like this. I felt insulted in my honour to stand on the pitch in that kit.
“So submissive, so inferior in footballing terms.
“The two Stuttgart games and the away game in Leverkusen. That was barricading with 11 men in the box.”
German outlet Bild report that the comments made Terzic lose his temper and a confrontation with Hummels supposedly turned violent.
Terzic and Hummels reportedly “made peace” before the final – which they lost to Real Madrid.
