MATT Moylan admits seeing Leigh flying convinced him they were the real deal.

The former Australia half back is the Leopards’ big signing for 2024 after a meeting with pal Ricky Leutele turned into something rather different.

And when boss Adrian Lam dropped everything and flew 455 miles to tell him what he would be joining, he knew he was not being wound up.

Moylan, 32, said: “He flew down from Brisbane to Sydney that day to have a meeting with me, it’s a fair old flight.

“It came out of nowhere. I caught up with Ricky when he was back in Oz. He spoke highly of the club and his experiences here.

“And both spoke about what they were able to achieve last year after being promoted and how they worked to build a side capable of playing in those big games.

“They also told of the opportunity in front of us. How they spoke about the club and the direction it could be heading was exciting.

“I sat on it for a couple of days but it sounded like something I wanted to do.”

Moylan is getting used to opponents after Leigh lost their opening two games, their clash at Wigan was shelved for the World Club Challenge.

And he is experiencing new things in a different way when it comes to training.

When asked about the difference between England and Australia ahead of tonight’s visit of Leeds, he added: “About 30 degrees. I don’t think I’d ever trained in pre-season in a hoodie and trackies before!”

Leopards coach Adrian Lam is in no doubt about the size of tonight’s clash – a win is needed, soon.

He said: “It’s a must win for us in the sense of not getting left behind on the table. We’ve got to find a way to win.

“We’re not happy but there was definite improvement against St Helens. There were some good signs moving forward – there’s good reason to think we’ll improve.

“It takes six to 10 weeks to get your team gelled.”
