This was despite being handed a five-place grid penalty for taking too many gearbox components, dropping him down to P6 for the race start.

However, behind the wheel of his Red Bull he flew past his rivals.

He overtook a helpless Lewis Hamilton on the Kemmel Straight early on before chasing down Charles Leclec and Sergio Perez with ease and forging an incredible 20-second-plus lead.

Indeed the top three on the grid all remained static throughout the race, leading Hamilton to miss out on podium 105.

In a small consolation prize, Hamilton snatched the fastest lap after pitting onto fresh mediums on the penultimate lap.
