Dallas Cowboys

In 2006, Austin was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent. Used mostly on special teams that season, he returned 29 kickoffs for 753 yards. In the Wild Card round of the playoffs, Austin recorded a 93-yard touchdown return, which was the first-ever kickoff return touchdown in Cowboys playoff history. He went on to become the team's main kickoff returner in 2007, and recorded a 25.5 average on 24 attempts for 612 yards. In the 2008 season, Austin recorded his first career 100-yard game and first career touchdown. He had his greatest season in 2009, beginning with his Cowboys single-game record of 250 receiving yards in a win over the Kansas City Chiefs in October. At the end of the year, Austin earned his first Pro Bowl selection. He finished the regular season as the NFC leader in receiving yards, with 1,320. Austin also recorded career-best totals in receptions (81) and receiving touchdowns (11). The Cowboys advanced to the playoffs, where they beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round before falling to the Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional round.

Austin had another strong season in 2010. With 10 catches in each of the first two games of the season, he became just the second Cowboys player ever to post double-digit catches in consecutive weeks. Austin earned another Pro Bowl selection, and finished the regular season with 69 receptions for 1,041 yards and seven touchdowns. Due to hamstring injuries, he had a less productive season in 2011, and was responsible for the Cowboys narrowly missing the playoffs. Although he struggled with more injuries in 2012, Austin played much better that season, recording 66 receptions for 943 yards and six touchdowns. His performance drastically declined in 2013, with further hamstring injuries and missed games causing his numbers to take a massive hit. Austin finished the regular season with just 24 receptions for 244 yards, with no touchdowns. Subsequently, in 2014, he was designated for release.
