THE Irish dominated the Cheltenham Festival and that dominance may continue over to the Flat season.
The Irish Flat season kicked off on Monday with the Irish Lincolnshire at The Curragh and it was Chazzesmee who took the spoils.
Chazzesmee (blue) was a cosy winner of the Irish Lincolnshire at The Curragh[/caption]Trained by Fozzy Stack, he was backed into 3-1 favourite and readily held off the late challenge of Smooth Tom.
A lightly-raced six-year-old, Chazzesmee should have plenty more to offer and bookies are unsurprisingly anxious about the prospect of him rocking up at Doncaster on Saturday for the Lincoln.
Initially cut into 12-1 (from 20) by Coral, punters have continued to pile in and Chazzesmee is now into 8s.
Coral’s Lewis Knowles said: ‘’There have been very few Irish runners in the Lincoln in recent times, so it would be some achievement if Chazzesmee was to do the double in the space of six days.
“He’s now 8-1 (from 12-1) for Saturday’s race and if Fozzy Stack can get him there in the same kind of form, then he’d have to have a big chance of scooping another huge pot”.
And Stack has his eyes firmly set on an audacious Doncaster raid.
He told Racing Post: “He’s a horse that has never been short of ability but he broke his pelvis at Dundalk as a three-year-old and was off for a year.
“For the last six months there has been nothing really wrong with him but he just hasn’t been able to run.
“We’ll see how he is during the week and then decide over whether to run in the Lincoln at Doncaster on Saturday. If he is OK we have nothing to lose.”
