THE son of rockstar Phil Collins is attempting to make a name for himself as a footballer.

Mathew, 18, is the youngest of the former Genesis drummer and frontman’s five children.

The midfielder spent the 2022/23 campaign with German side Hannover but was released at the end of the season.

In July, Austrian top tier outfit WSG Tirol signed him after he impressed in a trial.

But the youngster, whose mum Orianne Cevey is Swiss, has begun by playing for WSG Tirol Juniors – who play in Austria’s fourth division.

And manager Manuel Ludwiger insisted following the signing that Mathew’s father being rock n’ roll legend Collins, 72, did not play any part in them agreeing the deal.

He said: “We Google the players we take on trial to find out about their past careers.

“It was only then that we found out Mathew is Phil Collins‘ son.

“We haven’t signed him as a publicity stunt.  It is purely down to his footballing ability.”

Collins Sr is responsible for some huge songs including In the Air Tonight, Against All Odds, Turn It On Again and That’s All.

He has five children – three sons and two daughters.

One of his daughters is actress Lily Collins, 34, who is famous for being the lead in the hit-Netflix show Emily in Paris.

The rockstar’s other children are actress and producer Joely and musicians Simon and Nicholas.
