NEMANJA MATIC is reportedly set to join relegation-threatened Lyon.

The former Manchester United star only joined Ligue 1 rivals Rennes last summer.

Matic, 35, moved to the French side from Roma but struggled to adapt and had issues with his children’s schooling.

He has denied going on strike at the club and insisted that he was dealing with a personal matter.

It was also claimed that he was considering retiring from football altogether.

However, Matic is now set for a permanent move away from the club with Lyon in line to win the race.

Fulham had been linked with their own move, but it appears Matic will instead be staying in France.

And Fabrizio Romano has reported that the midfielder will be joining Lyon on a deal until June 2026.

He has suggested that Lyon and Rennes have agreed on terms for the Serbian.

Matic is said to have agreed on the 18-month deal with the move, just awaiting “documents and signature”.

This season, Matic has featured in 13 Ligue 1 matches for Rennes but has failed to find the net.

Matic won two Premier League titles and one FA Cup during his time in England with Chelsea before moving to Man United in 2017.

While at the Red Devils, he failed to win a trophy but did finish as a runner-up in the Europa League and FA Cup.

He could add some valuable experience to Lyon, with the club in desperate need of a lift after a disastrous start to the Ligue 1 campaign has left them 16th in the table.

The club has also been linked with a move to re-sign Karim Benzema from Saudi outfit Al-Ittihad.
