NEWCASTLE UNITED fans have turned Dortmund into a sea of black and white ahead of tonight’s crunch showdown.

Thousands of Geordies have flocked to Germany to see if their side can claim revenge on the Bundesliga giants after last week’s 1-0 defeat at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe’s team are desperate to bolster their chances of qualifying for the next round of the Champions League.

And they will certainly have some serious backing as it appears half of Tyneside has travelled out to support them against the legendary Dortmund wall.

Hundreds of video clips have been shared of the Magpies out and about downing pints and getting in the party spirit.

Thousands of supporters descended on the town square at 1pm local time and were entertained by a local DJ – and he was only too happy to produce a number of hits for them to sing along with.

Fans both young and old were spotted bobbing up and down as some more familiar terrace anthems were sung as the carnival atmosphere continued.

However, it has not all been plain sailing for those abroad.

Another clip emerged of a Newcastle fan trying to climb up a pub wall last night – but he took an unfortunate tumble backwards, narrowly avoiding smashing through a table of beers.

Fans were also seen singing a long to “Hey Jude” by the Beatles in one area that had been swarmed by Newcastle supporters.

Former Magpies star Shola Ameobi is also in the area saying hello to the travelling fans.

He has been asking fans if they are excited and posing for pictures alongside them.

With a trip to Paris Saint-Germain and a home game against seven-time European champions AC Milan to come, many believe today is a “must-win” for the Toon.

However, boss Howe is undeterred about the task ahead going into the vital clash.

He said: “Every game is a must-win. The term is probably overused in football.

“We prepare to win every game. That’s what we will try and do.”

Howe is about to celebrate his two-year anniversary at the club, whom he took over when they were deep in a relegation battle.

And he hailed the incredible support he and his players are receiving, adding: “The whole feeling at the club gives us satisfaction.

“The relationships are strong. Most importantly, the relationship with the supporters is healthy and in a good place. It’s so strong for us at the moment.”
