CRYSTAL PALACE are set to reject Newcastle’s FOURTH bid for England defender Marc Guehi.

Eddie Howe’s Toon Army have increased their offer for Guehi to an initial £60million with £5m in add-ons.

But it is believed the latest bid is not enough for Palace to sell with chairman Steve Parish stating the club are holding out for “superstar money”.

Newcastle boss Howe assured fans the Magpies are doing everything possible to sign Guehi.

Howe said: “We’re working hard. There’s no lack of effort from our side but nothing is close.”

Centre-back Guehi, 24, is open to making the move but is yet to agree personal terms and could still stay at Palace.

Boss Oliver Glasner said Guehi had been training well and remained in his plans before the opener against Brentford tomorrow.

When quizzed on whether Toon could walk away if their latest bid was rejected, Howe said yesterday morning: “We have done many times, especially early on when there was very much a Newcastle tax.

“When we would turn up the price would double.

“Many times we would not go down that road where we are overpaying for players. It has changed slightly because people have seen our dynamic and we aren’t going to pay silly fees for players.

“I’m determined to try and improve the squad.

“But at the same time, if we can’t, for whatever reason, yes, of course I’ll go forward with the squad with pride.”

Palace have been braced for interest in Guehi  — with his fine  performances for England at Euro 2024 only increasing the interest in him.

Glasner added: “He did great for England. Fantastic performances, very stable on a very high level. He was not a one-hit wonder at the Euros — all six games he played were a very high standard.

“I was not surprised that he can do this because I’ve watched him.

“But I was really surprised after his tough ending because he was injured for many months.

“Then playing this high rhythm on the highest level . . . I was really pleased to see this. Congrats to Marc that he could do it after the injury.”

But Palace are holding firm, especially given Fulham have made approaches for fellow centre-back Joachim Andersen.

Asked if he was concerned about losing two vital defenders, Glasner joked: “I would be concerned if we sell all the players because then we would have to play with my staff and we’d be s***!”

Glasner also admitted that while he could veto a sale — every player at Palace has their price.

Asked whether he could block a deal, Glasner said: “Yes, of course. But there will be an amount of money, like there is in sport, and then I have to agree and find a replacement. We are fully prepared for every situation.”

Meanwhile, Howe vowed to keep Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes — at least until January.
