The right-back played 602 games over the course of 19 seasons.

And Neville, who retired in 2011, finished his club career with an astonishing eight titles, three FA Cups and two Champions Leagues.

The defender’s time at Old Trafford saw him link up with numerous top names.

But when it came to strikers, there was only one Neville was left in total awe of.

The 85-time England international shared a pitch with icons like Eric Cantona, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neville was also pals with Treble winners Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole and Teddy Sheringham.

While mavericks including Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov also crossed his path.

However, in Neville’s eyes, none of them could hold a candle to Wayne Rooney.

But Neville reckons it was Wazza’s ability to do everything at a high level that set him apart from the rest.

He told Stick to Football, via Sky Bet:“When it comes to the best centre forward that I played with, there is no other answer than Wayne Rooney, and I know that is something that a lot of Manchester United fans disagree with.

“No one could do what Rooney could do with his hold-up play, his movement on and off the ball, beating a man, scoring goals, tackling, pressing and could play in a variety of positions.

“No one gets close to him in terms of an all-round forward.

“I don’t hesitate in saying that he’s the best centre forward that I played with.

“Cantona was probably a better passer and could hold the ball up better.

“Ruud was a better finisher, Ole was a better finisher.

“Yorkie and Cole’s partnership was better than Rooney. But he had everything.”
