The 23-year-old Hocker won his first-ever Olympic gold medal, and Lyles, who claimed the 100m gold over the weekend, wasn’t afraid to share his thoughts on the epic victory.
”That was an amazing 1500! Cole Hocker you Got me screaming my head off!” Lyles wrote on X.
The race was thought to be between world champion Kerr and the Norweigan Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who claimed gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
While it appeared that Kerr was on his way to victory, Hocker crept up on him and snatched the gold way.
“I am just so proud of myself to find a way to win,” Hocker told the BBC.
“I put myself in the position and my body took me over the line.”
Former US Olympic long-distance runner and NBC analyst Kara Goucher also revealed her reaction to the shocking win.
“Send medics. I’m dead.” she wrote.
Hocker’s teammate Yared Nugese received a bronze medal in the event.
Team USA wasn’t done in track and field as Thomas took home the gold hardware that many had expected.
Thomas won the women’s 200-m final, finishing the race in 21.83.
She beat Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred and Team USA’s Brittany Brown, who got silver and bronze, respectively.
Thomas received her second individual Olympic medal.

Lyles will race in Thursday night’s 200-meter finals.
And he will compete in the U.S. men’s 4×100 relay team on Friday.
