Non-league clash abandoned due to medical emergency with players taken off pitch as fans say ‘football doesn’t matter’

A NON-LEAGUE match was abandoned today due to a “medical emergency” with a spectator.

Slough Town’s official X account confirmed the match had been called off against Bath City after it was initially suspended.

The club posted at 4:44pm to notify fans that the game had been stopped, writing: “Play suspended here. A medical emergency has resulted in both sets of players leaving the field.

“Our thoughts are with the supporter involved. Updates to follow.”

They then offered an update twenty minutes later to confirm the game had been abandoned, saying: “Match abandoned. Due to the ongoing medical emergency, we must inform both supporters that today’s game has been abandoned. Updates to follow.”

The club have now provided an update revealing that the individual has been taken to hospital and was “sitting up and talking” before being taken away by ambulance crews.

Slough were 4-2 up before play was halted in the 70th minute for the emergency in the National League South game.

Slough City player manager Scott Davies confirmed that the fan was fine “after five minutes” and seemed to imply that the match should not have been abandoned.

He wrote: “Firstly the fan is fine and was fine after 5 minutes. But, the lengths some people will go to to get a game off when they’re under pressure…

“Then there is us just enjoying our season with zero pressure at all. Dignity still intact our end, as it always will be! 👊🏼

Bath City’s supporters club joined hundreds of fans on X wishing the individual a speedy recovery.

The account wrote: “Sending our thoughts and strength to the individual involved.”

Fans of both clubs have shared their support. One wrote: “Thoughts and prayers go out to the supporter and their family. Football doesn’t matter at this time.”

A fellow fan posted: “Hope all is okay.”

Another supporter wrote: “I hope the fan is okay.”

While a a Slough Town fan wrote: “This is not good hope the person will be OK. 🙏
