Non-league football clash postponed as Storm Kathleen batters pitch – but match could be rearranged at neutral ground

FC HALIFAX TOWN’S National League clash with Oldham on Wednesday has been postponed.

However, the fixture could still go ahead at a neutral venue as the clubs scramble to avoid more fixture congestion.

Halifax still have four matches remaining, including fixtures this Saturday and next Tuesday before the final day of the National League season on April 20.

The non-league side share their stadium with rugby league team Halifax Panthers, who hosted Batley Bulldogs on Saturday.

Pictures and footage from that match showed the pitch at the Shay looking worse for wear in wet and muddy conditions.

That was followed by confirmation from the Shaymen on Tuesday that the match was off.

In a club statement, they explained: “Tomorrow night’s game against Oldham Athletic has been postponed following a pitch inspection due to a waterlogged pitch.

“Firstly we sincerely apologise to both sets of fans.

“We are working in consultation with Oldham Athletic, the Police and Third Parties to find other workable solutions to get this fixture played asap including tomorrow night at an alternative venue.

“There will be a further update later today.”

Chris Millington’s side are hoping to secure a place in the play-offs across their final four matches.

Halifax are currently seventh in the table, one point above Aldershot and five clear of Oldham.

As well as their clash with the Latics, Halifax must still host Barnet and Ebbsfleet before travelling to Eastleigh on the final day next weekend.
