JAMES WADE has hit out at darts commentator Wayne Mardle for his assessment of his victory over Luke Humphries.

Wade beat Humphries 5-3 yesterday to book his spot in the next round of the Grand Slam of Darts and knock the world number one out in the process.

But The Machine wasn’t all smiles after the victory as he took aim at commentary icon Mardle.

Wade suggested that Mardle has put his victory down to luck, something that he strongly disagreed with.

Speaking to the media after the match, he said: “I was very lucky. But I disagree with Wayne Mardle.

“Apparently it was all my luck and nothing to do with ability. So yeah I was just happy, me and Luke had a battle but it is what is and move on.”

Wade even considered himself “unlucky” in his defeat to 5-3 Michael Mansell on Saturday.

He added: “I was unlucky against Mickey Mansell, I believe I was probably the better player in that game. He got a touch a luck. Still in luckily.

“I think most of my frustration goes towards Mickey Mansell and not personal. But it was his slow approach to the dartboard and slow walking back. I thought we dealt with that in the 90’s, early 2000’s.”

Wade admitted that Humphries wasn’t at his best when facing the world champ.

He explained: “The factual information with Luke is that he is the best player in the world and he’s a shiny hope for people and fans around the world.

“I believe he’s got some personal stuff going on as he just hasn’t been himself. Feels like it wasn’t Luke.”

Humphries’ shock exit came after the Cool Hand tungsten thrower revealed that his son has been ill this week.

In a post on social media, Humphries wrote: “What can I say… gutted to be out of the Grand Slam.

“[It] Just wasn’t me up on that stage this week, but I’ve had other things on my mind and it makes it so much harder to perform at this level.

“Looking forward to getting back to my son who’s not been well the past few days!”

“Thank you to everyone for the support and the lovely messages this week.

“Love you all, and I’m looking forward to spending some time at home with my family, I’ll be back and good luck to the remaining players in the competition!”

Elsewhere in the Grand Slam of Darts, teen Sensation Luke Littler booked his spot in the next round by winning his first two match-ups of the competition.

While Gary Anderson beat Michael van Gerwen to go top of his group, claiming he’s the most naturally-gifted darts player around without even practicing.
