ANDY MURRAY’S mum Judy is rated a shock contender to coach Novak Djokovic.
World No1 Djokovic, 36, split from Goran Ivanisevic last week after a mediocre start to 2024.
Judy Murray has an impressive pedigree as a coach[/caption]And he’s reportedly “considering” asking Murray senior, 64, whose son was for many years a fierce rival of the Serb.
It also comes as injured Andy has hinted his time as a player might end this year.
His mum, 64, is a well-respected coach who captained Great Britain’s Fed Cup team from 2011-2016.
She has coached across many levels, mainly via British tennis’ governing body the LTA.
But although winning 64 titles in Scotland as a junior and senior player in the 1970s, she soon cut short any idea of a professional career on the court.
Judy is said to have lost enthusiasm for such a life after being robbed in Barcelona and feeling homesick.
Djokovic enjoyed an incredible 2023, reaching a record 24 Grand Slam titles by lifting the Australian, French and US Open crowns.
But this year, by his standards, the seven-time Wimbledon champion has spluttered.
Jannik Sinner sunk Djokovic in the Australian Open semi-finals and he was a surprise early casualty at Indian Wells.
And most telling, perhaps, was the tension that appeared to emerge with his coaches at Melbourne Park
He had a public falling-out with his teams as they watched on.
Ivanisevic revealed Djokovic was “not an easy guy” and asked him to stop “yelling” at his box while on court.
Then came the pair parting ways at the end of march after six years together.
That decision intrigued many tennis observers – just as appointing Judy Murray would too.
