A PUNTER dubbed ‘one of the shrewdest ever’ stung Paddy Power for over £100,000 with an amazing New Year’s Day racing acca.

The Irish bookies were left with their jaws on the floor after the £10 each way five-fold came in easily.

Harry Redknapp’s horse Shakem Up’Arry helped the punter scoop the six-figure payout from a £20 stake[/caption]

The brilliant bet included three horses running at Cheltenham and two at Musselburgh.

There was no 50-1 freak result or anything like that, with 7-1 the biggest price of any of the runners and 4-1 the shortest.

In fact, Benson, who won the 1.10 at Musselburgh to kick-start the punt, won at those 4-1 odds.

Some 20 minutes later it was Stumptown’s (5-1) turn to run out the convincing winner of the Paddy Power Handicap Chase at Cheltenham.

Harry Redknapp then played a hand in landing the bet as his horse Shakem Up’Arry (11-2) turned over red-hot Paddy Power New Year’s Day Handicap Chase fav Stage Star in the next at the home of jumps.

The temptation to cash out would surely have been massive at this point.

But the bet rolled over into the 2.20 at Musselburgh where the Harry Derham-trained Fidelio Vallis ran out the winner of a 2m4f chase under 5lb claimer Alice Stevens.

After that 7-1 success it was all down to Butch in the 2.40 at Cheltenham.

Tipped up by Sun Racing’s Templegate, the Olly Murphy-trained seven-year-old led clearly two hurdles from home under in-form James Bowen.

But Sam Twiston-Davies looked to be making ominously good progress on Ed Keeper up the stands side.

A mistake at the last from him handed the momentum back to Bowen on Butch, though.

And it looked like victory would be his until My Bobby Dazzler found a second win up the far side, thundering home under a huge Charlie Deutsch drive.

But it wasn’t enough and Butch, showing real heart and tenacity, clung on for victory – landing the punter’s almighty bet in the process.

Victory was worth £108,601.76 in all and Paddy Power’s Paul Binfield said: “We sponsored three races at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day to celebrate the new year and then one of the shrewdest punters ever not only got all three of those winners correct, for good measure they also smashed into a couple at Musselburgh.

“We’re sure their New Year’s Eve celebrations were nothing compared to their celebrations last night. Cheers!”
