Our dad’s a World Cup winner – now we’re making our own way and are following in his footsteps for national team

TWO STARS are following in their legendary father’s footsteps by playing for France – but they still have a long way to go to match his achievements.

The siblings are the sons of 1998 French World Cup winning icon Lilian Thuram.

The now 52-year-old was widely-renowned as one of the greatest defender’s of his generation and lined-up for a host of Europe’s top clubs.

Thuram’s illustrious career included spells with Monaco, Parma, Juventus and Barcelona and he hung up his boots with a trophy cabinet filled with honours.

During his time at Parma he won Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italiana and the Uefa Cup and would later enjoy two Serie A title successes with Juventus.

He collected a Spanish Super Cup medal at Barcelona but undoubtedly his biggest accomplishments came on the international stage.

Thuram, who won 142 caps for his country, was part of the France side that smashed Brazil 3-0 in the 1998 World Cup Final.

And he also played a key role in helping them to lift the European Championship two years later as well as Les Bleus’ 2003 Confederations Cup success.

Thuram nearly became a two-time world champion in 2006, but this time France suffered heartbreak in the final as they suffered shoot-out defeat to Italy.

Despite that, he remains one of the all-time greats to ever pull on the famous French jersey, now it is his boys trying to bring back glory to the nation.

The 26-year-old Marcus Thuram is creating his own headlines these days as a striker with Inter Milan.

He joined the Serie A giants from Borussia Monchengladbach last summer and he has scored eight goals so far for the current league leaders.

Marcus came through the ranks at Sochaux in his homeland but it was after his move to Guingamp in 2017 that he started to catch the eye.

And after two years, he got his move to Germany and went on to score 34 times for Gladbach.

His displays earned his a first France cap in November 2020 and he went on to make their World Cup squad in 2022.

Marcus, who has two goals in 16 caps, even came close to replicating his dad’s achievements as he assisted Kylian Mbappe’s second goal in the final.

But Les Bleus suffered penalty shoot-out agony again as Argentina were crowned champions of the world.

Meanwhile, his younger brother Khephren is also a France international.

The Nice midfielder, 22, made his debut back in March as substitute in a 4-0 win over Netherlands.

He began his career with Monaco but failed to make the breakthrough there.

However, a switch to Nice in 2019 sparked lift-off in his career and now supporters in England could soon get to see a lot more of him.

Khephren was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool earlier this year and his list of admirers continues to grow as he shines in Ligue 1.
