The major hiccup came an hour into the £100m opening ceremony.

Giant screens were showing the parade events further up the river to large crowds near the Eiffel Tower.

However, the weather took a turn for the worse during the celebrations as France suffer from the heaviest period of rainfall for 30 years.

Spectators looked glum as they adorned transparent water-proof macs while sitting to watch the extravaganza on the river.

The jumbo screen at the Trocadero appeared to suffer a blackout as a result of the dreary weather.

Fans hoping to see Andy Murray and his Team GB colleagues on one of the screens were left disappointed as the elements ruined what should have been a fantastic event.

Viewers were also left complaining as the noise of the rain sounded out Lady Gaga’s voice in the microphone.

The weather got worse at the opening ceremony, before a new challenge entered the fray: waves.

But it didn’t go to plan for one poor dancer who FELL OFF the stage.

Fans watching on TV were left in stitches by some of the dad dancing on show.

And one dancer gave a BILLION fans viewing worldwide far more than they bargained for with an Inbetweeners-style X-rated wardrobe mishap.

In the UK, BBC viewers were all switching over to Eurosport when they found out who was hosting.

While some viewers were worried Serena Williams was going to THROW UP during a very choppy boat ride with the Olympic torch.

The ceremony

A procession of athletes from each participating country on 85 boats travelled down the river.

The main torchbearer was a masked vigilante wearing keens and Les Miserables-style revolutionary rags.

He or she entered on a boat to the Phantom of the Opera theme.

Before dancing to the iconic musical theatre piece ‘Do you hear the People Sing’ through the Notre Dame.

Then dozens of Marie Antoinette’s holding their own heads popped up to shock viewers.

And pop superstar Gaga sang, in French, with dancers shaking pink pompoms, adding a cabaret feel to what is expected to be a four-hour show.
