PETER WRIGHT has vowed to steal Luke Littler’s phone to stop him getting smashed up by the Warrington wonderkid.

The double world darts champion faces the teen sensation on night four of the Premier League in Newcastle on Thursday.

Wright, 53, is rock bottom of the eight-man table with zero points from three events.

And he has joked that he needs to upset The Nuke somehow and disrupt his usual laidback practice room preparation of playing FIFA on his mobile.

Snakebite laughed: “I’m going to take his phone off him in the backroom so he can’t play games!

“Hopefully this old boy can still do it against Luke. When I was his age and when I went to an exhibition to play one of the pros. I had the attitude that ‘I’m going to smash you up’.

“That’s the sort of attitude that Luke has got right now which is great.

“It will be nice to play him, I’ve seen what he has done to all the other top pros.

“He hasn’t played me yet but if I play like I did last week in Glasgow he will beat me easy!

“But I’ve now had another week of practice with these darts. That has got me ready for Newcastle.”

Littler, 17, has had the most difficult week of his professional career with an opening match Premier League defeat by Gerwyn Price in Glasgow last week and then a first-round loss to James Wade in the Players Championship on Tuesday.

And Littler has now suffered further misery after losing to Holland’s Jitse van der Wal in the PDC Tour Card qualifier.

Van der Wal had a 120 checkout to close out the match, which he won 6-3.

But Wright insists that he doesn’t care about the new kid on the block, adding: “It’s all about myself, I’m not worried about anyone else at all.

“I feel mentally strong. It’s coming but hopefully not in December, I’d prefer it before the Matchplay and UK Open, that would be nice.

“We’ve had lots of stuff to deal with as a family. But there’s people out there with worse situations than what I have and what I’ve dealt with. Some people have to go through that every single day.

“I just try and take each day as it comes. Every time you switch on the news some celebrity has passed away. You don’t know how long you’ve got on this planet.

“I just believe it will just come to get you when it’s ready, no matter how you keep fit.

“It is just a game of darts. Maybe years ago when I didn’t win titles and kept losing in finals, it might have mattered.

“I’ve won titles and majors. So deep down I know I could have quite easily retired straight after the world championships, put my feet up and watched darts progress even further. But I’m not finished.”

SunSport has revealed how Littler has signed the “biggest deal in darts” after agreeing a multi-year partnership with loyal sponsors Target Darts.

Target Darts first spotted Littler when he was 12 years old and have supported him throughout his journey on the PDC Development Tour and WDF circuit.

Today they have announced the first senior contract of his career, exactly a month after he turned 17, and it is believed to be a multi-million pound agreement.

That figure is based on potential earnings and bonuses over the next five to ten years as well as a percentage of sales of products and equipment to arrows fans.
