PHIL TAYLOR reckons Luke Littler might struggle to break his darts records.

‘The Power’ dominated the sport across three decades, winning a staggering 14 PDC World Championship titles, 16 World Matchplays, and 11 World Grand Prix trophies.

Taylor’s career spanned 31 years, starting on the professional tour back in 1987, before becoming a founding member of the new PDC in 1993.

He retired from the professional game in 2018, beaten by Rob Cross in the final of the 2018 World Championship.

Now, Taylor has had his say on Luke ‘The Nuke’ Littler, the reigning world champion, who defeated Michael van Gerwen 7-3 at Alexandra Palace.

In an interview with Bild, Taylor laughed off any talk of a potential comeback, confirming that his career was “over”, but that he would be “involved” on the Seniors tour.

Brendan Dolan, who Littler thrashed in the quarter-finals of the World Championships, believes that the 18-year-old is on the same level as that of Taylor.

Taylor, sometimes referred to as ‘The Crafty Potter’ said that Littler was “absolutely brilliant”.

He said: “I love the way he operates up there. He’s not interested in money. He’s interested in titles. He’s interested in having fun.”

He offered his thoughts on whether the youngster could break his record for the most PDC titles, and he thinks that it could be quite the challenge.

Taylor said: “It’s much harder now.

“I probably won 10 World Championships when the schedule wasn’t half as full as it is now.

“But sure, the record can be broken. Luke has age on his side”.
